Venice, Italy. Photos of the Piazza San Marco. The most popular square in Venice, this is where the Basilica of San Marco and the Doge's Palace are located. Other buildings include the Procuratie Vecchie (Old Law Courts) and Procuratie Nuove (New Law Courts).
To the rear of the Doge's Palace is the famous Bridge of Sighs, which connects the palace with public prisons and was the route by which prisoners were taken to and from the judgment hall.
The Grand Canal is Venice's largest canal. The Grand Canal is almost 2 miles long and up to 230 feet wide. Many famous buildings are along on its banks, including the Accademia Gallery, the Grassi, Corner-Spinelli and Grimani Palaces.
